17 באוגוסט 2011 – מפגש רביעי

Last night I was at the OFEK street event in Rothschild Boulevard. I want to express a special thanks to Yossy who invited me to co-facilitate the social dreaming matrix and for leading this project.

Why did I go as an International member of OFEK? What was it for me? I went because I wanted to understand more what is happening in Israel today and how one can use our psycho-dynamic systemic tools in a different way on the street in the public. I think that it is a fantastic idea and one of the most innovative I came across in the last years in our field. In Italy we an enormous amount of problems at present, can I import something?

I am very happy that I joined the evening and I think that the tent movement is a fundamental start and opening. My experience was of an agorà where different voices can be heard, it is a political space, in a way it is back to the essence of democracy from the ancient Greek times.

When I went there and walked around for an hour before the OFEK meeting, I started having more reservations than when I had read of it in the newspapers and heard from people.. For me, the question is always where are the Palestinians in all this. In a way it felt a collective split and the discontent and frustration is projected all on the economic issues which are real and poignant, but cannot be tackled if not in the overall context of Israel today. But it is a point of view, a European one probably. What I think is important that for the first time after many years there is a space for different voices in Israel and where people want, can express their discontent and opinions. I am also slightly suspicious about the festive and happy atmosphere, where is the aggression? Is there enough powerful aggression to impact the government and bring forward change?

The OFEK social dreaming street event was great, there were a lot of people. Although I did not understand a word of what was said, differently from the OFEK retreats I attended, I did not want translation it would ruin the atmosphere. I felt deeply connected and accepted, I felt deeply a member of OFEK. My facilitator role was very difficult to take up, I could not understand what people were saying, so I limited to be careful to boundaries, time, etc and left the Israeli colleagues take the main stage. I do not think there was any other solution.  Beyond my expectations I managed to take the microphone and to express the difficulty of not understanding and the good feeling of being there. A main issue for me was how can you follow another country's dream or a political change process?

Another issue which impressed me was that many people spoke on the boundary, on the fence, they did not manage to come in or into the center. It opened for me a method question, should we ask people to talk only from the center or talking from the fence is fine? It is not a GR conference, we are exploring new boundaries and methods? The colleagues with whom I spoke after where sure that it is fine to talk also on the fence, I do not buy it 100%, but I need to think it over more.

Thank you all for allowing me to participate in this new and very special event.
